Grand Rapids Art Museum
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Project Architect with Munkenbeck + Marshall Architects
The Grand Rapids Art Museum is the centerpiece of the city's regeneration and the world's first LEED-Gold museum. The 120,000 sf facility houses interior galleries, cafe and community facilities. The museum creates a continuity between its public lobby and cafe and the adjoining park designed by Maya Lin. Daylight is diffused and controlled by skylit lanterns above the galleries. A concrete labyrinth below the building modulates between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
