Scott Lauer is a recognized leader in directing the planning, design and construction of award-winning capital projects. His experience as architect, designer, client, and owner's rep informs his approach. The result is a collaborative process where all stakeholders are focused on program, budget and quality goals. Scott has provided services for non-profit education and arts institutions, government entities and public-private partnerships.

Scott has also served in executive positions at non-profit organizations developing programs and partnerships, and managing staff, boards and budgets. Scott founded Open House New York in 2001 and grew it from an annual, free weekend tour of architecture and design in NYC - the largest of its’ kind in the U.S. - to a year-round calendar of educational events and programming. Scott has consulted with organizations in Denver, Chicago, San Diego and Los Angeles to build Open House programs in those cities.

Key Accomplishments

  • Directed planning, design and construction for a $400M program in Philadelphia to improve 70+ libraries, recreation centers and parks in underserved communities.

  • Led teams to plan, design and build education, culture and lab projects for Princeton University, Cambridge University, and University of London, and K-12 schools in New York City, Chicago and Rochester.

  • Directed design and construction of an award-winning 25-library initiative.

  • Led team to plan, design and build an award-winning $130M, 13-building, 300-acre campus for Abercrombie & Fitch.

  • Providing capital and facilities planning for a 52-school network, and a 100-unit landmark NYC Co-op.

  • Directed innovative programs to build resilient, sustainable and affordable post-storm housing in New York City and Union Beach, NJ.

  • Founded Open House New York and created America’s largest public architecture event.

  • Directed national programs to educate civic leaders and Mayors of major cities to use design to solve problems in their community.
